Beth Brooks is a Memphis attorney with more than forty years of experience practicing across a wide span of Tennessee law — from family and juvenile matters to estate planning, Social Security disability, civil rights, personal injury, and workers’ compensation. A lifelong Memphis resident, she brings to every case a deep familiarity with the courts, the judges, and the communities she serves.

Four Decades of Service to Memphis
Beth Brooks was born in Memphis and has made her career here. She attended Rhodes College and graduated from Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis) in 1988. In the years since, she has been recognized many times for her pro bono work and legal services to the most vulnerable members of her community — the clients for whom the legal system can be most difficult to navigate.
Outside her practice, Ms. Brooks has been an active community member through organizations including the Memphis Jaycees and Trees for Memphis. Her work in and out of the courtroom reflects a long commitment to the civic life of the city.
Areas of Practice
Ms. Brooks’s practice covers the areas of law that most directly touch families, households, and individuals in transition. Her work includes:
Family Law
Divorce, legal separation, child custody and co-parenting plans, child support, alimony, and modification proceedings. Family matters are often the most personally consequential cases a client will face, and Ms. Brooks approaches them with the discretion and practical judgment they deserve.
Juvenile Matters and Custody
Representation in Shelby County Juvenile Court on custody, dependency and neglect, visitation, and related matters involving minors.
Estate Planning and Probate
Preparation of wills, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and related documents. Representation of personal representatives, beneficiaries, and heirs in probate administration and estate disputes in the Probate Court of Shelby County.
Social Security Disability
Representation before the Social Security Administration at the initial application, reconsideration, and Administrative Law Judge hearing stages for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims.
Civil Rights
Representation in civil rights matters, including claims brought under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and related federal and state civil rights statutes.
Personal Injury
Representation of injured clients in motor vehicle collision cases, premises liability matters, and other negligence claims, from pre-suit negotiation through trial.
Workers’ Compensation
Representation of injured workers before the Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, including benefit review conferences, Court of Workers’ Compensation Claims proceedings, and appeals.
Criminal Defense
Representation in criminal matters in General Sessions Court and Criminal Court of Shelby County, often in coordination with the firm’s other attorneys.

Approach
The common thread across Ms. Brooks’s practice is a belief that the law should work for everyone — including people without the resources or experience to navigate it on their own. She is known among clients and colleagues for listening carefully, explaining clearly, and pursuing each matter with the care and diligence it requires, regardless of the size of the case.
